Mai Wah Museum to Open for Summer 2022 Season

The Mai Wah Society is excited to announce its museum and gift shop will open for the Summer 2022 season on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. Located at 17 West Mercury Street in historic Uptown Butte, the museum’s regular schedule is Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cost of admission for the public is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children, students, and seniors. Kids under five years old get in for free. The Mai Wah Museum will be open through Saturday, September 10, 2022.

The Mai Wah Society’s museum sits in the heart of Butte’s old China Town and features exhibits with artifacts and information about the important contributions made by the Chinese to local history and culture. A non-profit organization, the Society exists for educational, charitable, and scientific purposes, including research and public education about the history, culture, and conditions of Asian people in the Rocky Mountain West. In addition to operating the museum, the Mai Wah Society also hosts the annual Chinese New Year Parade in Butte, along with other Chinese cultural celebrations and informational presentations.

Again this year, the Mai Wah is proud to be part of the Blue Star Museums program, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in collaboration with Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums nationwide. It offers free admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel, including the National Guard and Reserves, and their families. Additionally, the Mai Wah will offer free admission to first responders and medical personnel, as a thank you for their incredible work during the pandemic. Visitors meeting any of the previous criteria will just need to show their work badges or identification cards to get free admission.
